Today is Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and World Vegan Day!
I am sharing the same project done in two ways to represent both holidays!
I took inspiration from the iconic sugar skulls and from the cute tofu cartoon character:
Start by mixing up a batch of EasyCast Resin and coloring it opaque white.
*ETI recommends wearing gloves for your safety* Gloves also help keep your nails nice!
Pour into mold that have been sprayed with Castin' Crafts Mold Release.
I'm using a skull ice cube tray from Dollar Tree and Bead's Landing square mold from Michael's.
Let set to harden for 24-72 hours.
These are the base pieces:
Paint the face of the Tofu Cartoon on the square using Acrylic Paint.
It is basically overlapping dots for the eyes and a semi circle for the mouth...
For the skull I'm using vibrant colors and painting on flowers, vines, and hearts.
Flowers can be made simple by making a ring of 4 or 5 dots for the petals and a dot in the center.
One the paint has dried seal it on with a few coats of Resin Spray.
Let this dry a while before handling to prevent finger prints.
To turn these into pendants all you need is E-6000 and bails.
I'm using Aanraku medium heart bails. Aanraku has loads of pieces that work
perfectly with resin! You can check out what they offer here: http://store.abasg.com/mm5/merchant.mvc
Apply some E-6000 to the bail...
Press firmly to the back of the piece and let set for 24 hours to reach maximum adhesion.
Add a chain and you're ready to celebrate with one-of-a-kind style!
